TERA is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for everyone in Eagle Rock. Here are some of our major accomplishments:

  • Sponsors the annual Eclectic Eagle Rock Home Tour, bringing positive attention to Eagle Rock's architecturally unique and diverse neighborhoods and creating a community event that encourages the residents of Eagle Rock and visitors to get to know the various parts of Eagle Rock and each other by exploring homes located in different locations within Eagle Rock every year.

  • Worked to ensure the preservation of the Eagle Rock as a park to be enjoyed by the entire community and future generations of Eagle Rockers. The site was eventually purchased by the City of Los Angeles for preservation

  • Mobilized community input to the City Planning Department's proposed 1995 update to the Northeast Plan, resulting in the Planning Department holding additional hearings and making major revisions to the Northeast Plan. After years of tenacious effort by TERA and the Community Plan Advisory Committee (CPAC), a Plan far more beneficial to all Northeast communities was unanimously passed by the City Council in June 1999.

  • Helped develop and enact the Colorado Boulevard Specific Plan, setting a new standard for development on Colorado. The Plan has helped improve the appearance and quality of businesses on Eagle Rock's main street.

  • Developed a community garden and art park through the use of a neighborhood matching fund grant, volunteer labor, and volunteer contributions from local artisans, and the use of TERA community beautification funds, reclaiming an abandoned public right of way and converting it to a productive use to be enjoyed by the entire community. The Eagle Rockdale Community Garden and Art Park is located at the easterly end of Eagle Rock, south of Shelby-Lanark Park.

  • Helped arrange for the Greater Los Angeles Council on Deafness (GLAD) to restore and occupy the former WCTU home, a 1920s historic property in Eagle Rock which might otherwise have been allowed to further deteriorate or be demolished.

  • Participated in the development and eventual passage of the Community Design Overlay Ordinance, which allows community-based design standards and guidelines to be established to steer future development in Los Angeles neighborhoods

  • Sponsored a seminar for area realtors on the requirements of the Colorado Boulevard Specific Plan, the Northeast Community Plan, and other local ordinances that impact planning and land use planning and development in the Eagle Rock community in a collaborative effort with Council District 14.

  • Represents Eagle Rock residents by regularly conducting research on a wide range of public issues, including planning and land use matters, and appearing at public hearings conducted by the City of Los Angeles regarding matters directly affecting Eagle Rock.

  • Works with the Eagle Rock Chamber of Commerce and ERCPR on various issues affecting the business district in order to create more opportunities for businesses and resident customers.

  • Holds quarterly public meetings where topical local issues are presented and discussed, helping to empower Eagle Rock residents and business owners to take an active role in determining the future of their community. Newsletters sent to the TERA membership include articles on previous public meetings to keep informed those unable to attend.

  • Publishes a newsletter discussing various issues of importance to the community, announcing successes, and highlighting Eagle Rock businesses that set a high standard for the commercial district.

  • Supports BLEND (Business for Law Enforcement Northeast Division), a long-standing organization dedicated to championing and assisting with the good work of the Northeast Division of LAPD.

  • Is an advocate and partner of North East Trees, an organization responsible for planting thousands of trees and implementing a variety of beneficial landscaping projects throughout the Northeast over the last decade.

  • Supports the Center for the Arts Eagle Rock (housed in a designated historic building formerly used as a library) by supporting and promoting its various activities as well as by using the Center for its Community Meetings, calling attention to this historic structure as a hub for neighborhood activities and emphasizing its importance to Eagle Rock's sense of history and community.

  • Established a Web site that is continually updated to bring TERA members and others in the Eagle Rock community even more information regarding TERA's efforts to improve the community. .

  • Publishes a weekly e-letter to keep TERA's members and the Eagle Rock Community informed of issues and events around town and apprises those interested of volunteer opportunities, encouraging TERA members and supports to participate in their community for the benefit of all.
