    The Blissful Soul

BRIDGING WORLDS: A Demonstration in Building Sacred Space with Stan Smith at The Blissful Soul on Saturday, June 3rd at 2:00 p.m.

Stan Smith helped us convert our dusty blacktop parking lot last month into a myriad of colorful sacred altars, sending blessings out to Eagle Rock and the world. It was an amazing sight! He returns, by popular demand, this Saturday to continue his series on sacred space. Stan says he teaches people about building sacred space as a way of re- connecting to others and to the world. If you're feeling a need for a greater feeling of connection, please join us on Saturday.

Bring materials for your personal altar, including a cloth to go underneath and a few items that are sacred to you. Wear comfortable clothes. Cost: $20.

Stan Smith is an Eagle Rock resident, and a teacher of street art strategies for urban shamanism.

    Highland Park Farmers' Market

In season at the Highland Park Farmers Market:

Apricots got the ball rolling last week and more early season stone fruits are now making their appearance at the market. Look for white and yellow peaches as well as yellow nectarines coming in from Central Valley growers. When it comes to peaches, tree-ripening makes all the difference. Supermarket peaches are bred for their hardiness and durability, resulting in firm, but flavorless fruit. Tree-ripening allows for the development of the complex flavors that make a truly delicious peach, but these fruits don't transport well. That's why the best peaches and other stone fruits are only available at farmers markets.

Please stop by the market and taste a variety of fruit from different vendors to see for yourself.

Cherries meanwhile continue their brief season at the market, get them while they last! The usual suspects are still at the market including strawberries, avocados, citrus, salad greens and fresh herbs as well as broccoli, cauliflower, beets and cool season greens, early season corn, tomatoes and asparagus.

As always, staples like onions, garlic and potatoes are available at the market.

Pick up some flowers for your sweetie from one of our vendors of beautiful fresh cut flowers. Eat dinner at the market and choose from roasted chicken, tamales, roasted corn and baked yams, kettle corn, and fresh roasted peanuts. Also take home freshly baked breads and fresh fish.

Please stop by and pick up fresh, field-ripened, high quality produce from local farmers and meet your friends, neighbors and other community members.

The Highland Park Certified Farmers Market is located adjacent to the Highland Park Gold Line station at Marmion Way between Ave. 57 & 58 and operates Tuesdays from 3-8 pm.

Visit the market website at http://www.oldla.org. Also visit http://www.its.caltech.edu/~sbudick to see where your produce is coming from!

    Macbeth at Eagle Rock High - June 1, 2 & 3
    McBeth Pic

Samurai Shakespeare -- Macbeth at Eagle Rock High -- June 1, 2 and 3

Macbeth is a tale of passion, power and revenge. The tyrant Macbeth (Carlo Estella) is driven by his greedy wife, Lady Macbeth (Melissa Chan), to seize the throne. The forces of justice and retribution are set in motion by Macduff (Raisa Donato), Malcolm (Anthony Madrid) and the other knights of the realm.

As a tribute to the Filipino/Asian community of the Eagle Rock family, Director Russell Copley sets the play in a pan-Asian world that reflects the struggle between traditional martial arts doctrine and Macbeth's infatuation with 1980's technology and fashion.
