It takes place this Sunday, May 19, 2002. The event will

This is a fantastic and very fun event, and it is a great thing for Eagle
Rock!
We have a WONDERFUL AND ECLECTIC array of fines homes this year -- from a
lovely Asian-inspired Craftsman to a Conrad Buff/Richard Neutra-designed home
built for plein-air artist Buff in 1927 to a terrific Spanish Colonial to an
Irving Gill-influenced home designed by its architect/owner only five years
ago, and more!
You can purchase tickets at the following locations:
Beaujolais
Boulangerie, 1661 Colorado Boulevard
Eufloria, 1576 Colorado Boulevard
Galco's Old World Grocery, 5702 York Boulevard
The TERA booth at the annual Dahlia Days Arts Festival, this Saturday, May 18,
on Caspar and Merton Avenues
Tickets are $10.00 in advance for TERA members, $12.00 for the general public
and, for all, $15.00 at the door.
The Home Tour begins at 5418 Dahlia Drive, north of Hill Drive. Call

Our tour could still use a few more volunteers. All volunteers receive a
complimentary ticket to our Home Tour and an invitation to our post-tour party,
which is always great fun! Please call Wanda Kuenzli at (323) 256-7297
or by e.mail at wmkuenzli@earthlink.net.
2. DAHLIA DAYS
SPRING ARTS FESTIVAL -- TOMORROW -- MAY 18
The Eagle Rock Community Cultural Center will celebrate its 6th Annual
Spring Arts Festival on Saturday, May 18, 2002 from 10 a.m. to 6 p. m. at the
corners of Colorado Boulevard and Caspar Street in Eagle Rock. The
event is free and all are welcome.
Named Dahlia Days in honor of the dahlia flower farms that thrived in Eagle
Rock in the early 20th Century, the Festival this year features The Art Tent,
where over 20 regional artists will exhibit their work and meet the public.
Come dance to the live music of the Gene Jaramillo Band, Swara and legendary
blues singer, Zola Moon, throughout the day. The festival includes a free
family art workshop, arts and crafts vendors, a variety of ethnic foods and treats,
and local business and community booths.
In conjunction with the Festival, local music students will perform live music
at the Eagle Rock Branch Public Library at 5027 Caspar Street starting at 1:15
in the afternoon.
Guests may also visit the Cultural Center Gallery, where they can view the
exhibit Eagle Rock Renaissance of Plein Air in our beautiful gallery space. The
Cultural Center, located at 2225 Colorado Boulevard, just west of Eagle Rock
Boulevard, is a former Carnegie Library built in 1914 and is on the National
Registry of Historic Places. Come and visit our festival and our
facility!
For more information, please visit the Cultural Center's Web site at
http://www.erccc.org or call the Center at (323) 226-1617.
3. LETTERS AND
E.MAILS
"Thanks for yet another great newsletter. It's a subtle point, but
kind of interesting, that the Shavian quote was from a play, and what he
actually wrote was: 'You see things; and you say Why? But I dream things that
never were; and I say Why not?' Shaw tended to try to be more
argumentative than inspirational. But it was a swell letter, as always,
and I thank you."
-- Mark Arnott, Eagle Rock resident
"I love your newsletter . . . it really helps me stay on top.
Thanks."
-- Tricia Neal, owner of Swork Coffee, Eagle Rock resident, and TERA member
"The previous owners of the house we bought received your [printed]
newsletter. We've been forwarding their mail. We are enjoying
living here. Been here about a week.
We're Oxy alum. Let me know if there is any way I can help.
Newsletter seems like a really good thing and I'd like to keep involved
and informed. Are there dues in order to be put on the newsletter mailing
list?"
-- Melissa Mancia-Ramon and Miguel Ramon, relatively new Eagle Rock residents
A letter to Council Member Pacheco from a concerned constituent, and copied to
us:
"My wife and I will very much appreciate you taking the Walgreens issue by
the horns and urging the developer and Walgreens to do a tasteful, dynamic and
functional restoration of the old Shopping Bag building. The relationship
of the building frontage to Colorado Blvd. is a critical part of the planning
and we will want you to bring all possible influence to the developer and to
the folks in the Planning Dept. and in the Building and Safety Department to
assure that Colorado Blvd is enhanced by this project. Moreover, we want
careful attention in the plan to positioning, design and landscaping for the
parking lot to assure that it both fits physically and aesthetically with the
building. Thank you for your attention to this matter."
-- Paul Vandeventer, Eagle Rock resident and TERA member
