Besides our entrepreneurs in Eagle Rock, we thank the many businesses in Altadena, Atwater Village, Burbank, Echo Park, Glendale, Highland Park, La Cañada, Los Feliz, Montrose, Mount Washington, Pasadena, Santa Monica, Silver Lake, and South Pasadena who graciously displayed our posters and flyers.

And, of course, to the Homeowners and our many Volunteers, without whose generosity and love for Eagle Rock our Home Tour would not be possible.

And congratulations to Home Tour PR Committee chair Ellen Narver and her top notch public relations committee!  Today’s Los Angeles Times Home section features TERA’s Eclectic Eagle Rock Home Tour!  Check out the feature and the terrific photo of one of the houses on the tour on Page 6 of the print edition, or by e.mail at http://www.latimes.com/features/home/la-hm-datebook21oct21,1,6888363.story?coll=la-headlines-home

Most especially, I would like to thank this years Co-Chairs of the Eclectic Eagle Rock Home Tour – Tracy King, Joanne Turner and Liz Wagner.  They have helmed one of our most solid teams of volunteers and homeowners to create a truly memorable event!

THANK YOU TO BUSINESSES OFFERING TERA MEMBER BENEFITS!

In a nod to TERA members and their staunch support of independent businesses in Eagle Rock, two new businesses have joined those offering discounts to our membership: Yoga Essence and the Juice Exchange.

Yoga Essence, under new owner Hilary Lachoff, is offering a 10% discount to TERA members.  The Juice Exchange, offering sandwiches, smoothies and much more, is offering a 15% discount to all TERA members.

Patricia Neal of swork has gone so far as to create a 15% off TERA discount card specifically for TERA members.

Thank you very much to all of these fine Eagle Rock establishments, along with the Coffee Table and Curves, who are offering these discounts.  Though many of us put our savings right into the respective tip jars, it still is a wonderful way to show how often TERA supports Eagle Rock business!

4.         FRIENDS OF THE SCHINDLER HOUSE EVENT FEATURES MORGANNE – OCTOBER 22ND AND 23RD

The phenomenal chanteuse, Morganne, will be modeling LA Eyeworks eyewear in a fabulous runway performance at the Schindler House.  Tickets are still available!

SHOWDOWN!

Friday, October 22 & Saturday, October 23, 7:30 p.m. sharp

Schindler House, 835 North Kings Road, West Hollywood, CA 90069

Admission:  $50; $45 Friends of the Schindler House; reservations essential

Call (323) 651-1510 to reserve your ticket!

Twin runway spectaculars featuring some 90 pieces produced by more than 20 participants will incorporate sound, music, light, spoken word and architecture.

To the accompaniment of ambient soundscapes and live music, the runway shows will serve a double audience seated in gardens on either side of the Schindler House.  Using sculptural, two-story stair towers designed by the Los Angeles office of architecture firm COOP HIMMELB(L)AU, models will walk across and over the landscape, offering dynamic perspectives framed by R.M. Schindler's renown architecture.

Giles Miller's Shifty Disco Band will create an exciting aural environment, combining ambient sounds from various social milieus "from street life to Dodger games" with live and sampled soul music augmented by the amazing voice of drag diva Sean De Lear.

Participants include:  Andrew Andrew (djs, curators, fashion designers); Bon & Ging (stylist/artist & environmental designer); Ingrid Bromberg & Blain Kennedy (artist & musician); Dioscuri (architects & designers); Escher GuneWardena (architects); Feral Childe (design, performance); Fugue  Andrea Lenardin Madden and Raegan Kelly (architect, artist); Gizmo (architects); LA Eyeworks (designers); Liz Larner (artist); Caudia Rosa Lukas (designer); Michael Mahalchick (artist); Elena Manferdini (architect, designer); Tina Marrin (artist); My Barbarian (musicians); Renée Petropoulos (artist); Jessica Rath with Millie Wilson (artists); Ujein (designer); We are lucid dreaming (designer); Wooden Mustache (designer); and Amy Yao (artist).

Attitude will run the gamut, from serious to playful, from intellectual to tongue in cheek, from "let's dress up" to "let's get down." SHOWDOWN! designers cite a multiplicity of inspirations, including flags, architecture, the natural environment, politics, native garments of the Philippines, and the movement of flying insects!  Materials range from the finest Thai silks to paper, plastics and recycled old clothes, and methodologies are as high-tech as aeronautic laser cutting and as down-home as the stapler and "Handy Stitch."  Stunning models will stride the catwalk, to be sure, but in their midst will be stumbling zombies, Mr. Tape Jockey Plus, a baton twirler and a woodwind quintet, among other "surprise" mannequins.

SHOWDOWN! is organized by MAK Center Director Kimberli Meyer and Sundown Salon Impresario Fritz Haeg.

10.       CHRISTMAS IN OCTOBER? -- SUPPORT THE ERHS TENNIS TEAM!

Before you buy your Christmas greenery, consider ordering this month to support the ERHS Boys Tennis Team!  Eric Jacobson, ERHS Alumnus (Class of ‘89), Tennis Coach and Counselor needs our help!

Dear Friends of Eagle Rock:

I’m writing to ask for your help in supporting the Eagle Rock High School boys tennis team by pre-ordering a Christmas tree, wreath, or garland in the month of October or by sending a monetary donation.  Recently, our team’s school budget was decreased by one half, exerting extra pressure on all of our athletes to greatly increase their fundraising efforts.  Our team is raising money for two overnight trips (to see professional tennis at Indian Wells in March, and to train for city playoffs at the Big Bear Tennis Ranch in April).  Each team member needs to raise his own funds to pay for those two activities, as well as for his uniform, the banquet, and individual trophies.

This is our third year selling Christmas trees of three sizes (5-6 foot, 6-7 foot, and 7-8 foot) and of three varieties (Douglas, Grand, and Noble Fir), as well as two sizes of wreaths and garland.  Prices for trees are competitive with those of any fresh-tree lot ($34 and up), and the quality of the trees is guaranteed or your money back!  Small wreaths (24 inches in diameter) are $22, large wreaths (28 inches in diameter) are $27, and a 10-foot-long garland is $23.  Christmas tree stands (with and without water bowls) are a few dollars extra.  All trees are cut only TWO days before shipment to the school on December 10.  All trees will be delivered (at no cost if you live near Eagle Rock!) or need to be picked up from the horticulture area in the middle of campus on Saturday, December 11, between 9 am and 1 pm.

If you were planning to buy a live Christmas tree this year, please buy through us and receive a tree of the highest quality.  Simply complete the bottom section of the order form enclosed (on the back of the flyer), and send it to me at the address below.  Retain the top portion for your records.  Pre-orders are being taken in the month of October only, and a deposit of at least $20 per tree is due upon ordering.  Total payment is required for wreaths or garlands.

If you live far from ERHS or don’t plan to have a tree this season, please consider helping us with a donation (made out to “ERHS BOYS TENNIS”) which will go straight to one young, hard-working tennis player at our school.  I speak for all of the members of the #7-ranked Eagle Rock High School tennis team when I thank you tremendously for your support.  Please tell your friends and neighbors, too!

Please send your order or donation to:  EAGLE ROCK HIGH SCHOOL, c/o ERIC JACOBSON, 1750 YOSEMITE DR., LOS ANGELES, CA  90041 or call: (323) 254-6891 (x192) during the day or (323) 333-6967 any time to leave a message.

16.       CAMILO’S CALIFORNIA BISTRO NAMED ONE OF 50 TOP HISPANIC OWNED RESTAURANTS BY HISPANIC MAGAZINE!

The October issue of Hispanic Magazine ran this rave review of Camilo’s California Bistro (and I agree with the ceviche martini being excellent!):

Camilo’s Bistro
Tucked away in the Eagle Rock area of Los Angeles, Camilo’s is all about fine dining and excellent service. You won’t find classic Latin American dishes here, rather the gourmet-inspired dishes of Colombian chef-owner Camilo Gonzales. The ceviche martini or prawn corn cake fritters make excellent starters, which can be followed by the tasty osso buco or red Thai curry red snapper. Desserts include Amelia’s apple (a baked apple in a crust) and the café flan. Beer and wine. 2128 Colorado Boulevard (323-478-2644). Breakfast, lunch, and dinner Tues.–Sat.; breakfast and lunch Sun. AE, D, MC, V. $$$.

Congratulations, Camilo and Amelia, for being one of the great restaurants in Eagle Rock!

After attending the meeting with Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa several weeks ago, it became clear to me (and my colleague who was seated next to me), that if Antonio becomes our Mayor, that an individual from TERA would be the person best suited to fill the vacated city council seat. TERA is highly committed to improving our community. They have the organizational skills needed to mobilize community members to participate in activities that will help us to achieve community goals. The ideal City Council member should be a passionate and committed person who has the leadership skills needed to get things done. TERA activists clearly possess all of these qualities.
