NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL REVIEW COMMISSION EAST / NORTHEAST MEETING THURS.
JAN. 25
As 2007 begins, the Neighborhood Council Review Commission is
continuing its series of meetings in the community to gain public input.
The commission is charged with reviewing and making recommendations the
city’s neighborhood council system, not individual neighborhood councils.
The commission hopes to hear a range of views, including those of people
who participate in neighborhood councils as well as those who don’t.
All stakeholders are welcome to participate at any of the hearings.
“Neighborhood Councils were designed for two reasons: to promote
stakeholder participation in local government and to improve city
responsiveness to local needs,” said NCRC Vice Chair Jason Lyon. “We are
visiting neighborhoods all over Los Angeles to find out whether the system
is working as intended – and how it can be improved.”
The first EASTSIDE hearing for communities in east and northeast LA
will be: Thursday January 25 from 6:30-9:30pm Puente Learning Center
(Boyle Heights) 501 S. Boyle Avenue, L.A. 90033
Parking is free. Translation will be provided, and refreshments will be
compliments of Councilmember Jose Huizar.
In order to allow for as many voices as possible, speakers are asked to
keep their remarks under three minutes. Written comments of any length may
be submitted at the meeting or via the NCRC’s website, www.ncrcLA.org.
14 separate listening sessions that have been scheduled in communities
across the city, in addition to the NCRC’s regular meetings. A full
calendar of all meetings is available at the commission’s website at www.ncrcLA.org
. Commission members, appointed by the Mayor and the City Council, are
residents, business-owners and community members from across the City of
Los Angeles. They are serving in a volunteer capacity, and will send a
report of findings and possible action to the City Council in late 2007.
More information on the commission may be found at www.ncrcLA.org.
